Qatar Ministry Organizes Meadow Planting to Enhance Biodiversity

Al Ghuwairiya:Qatar's Ministry of Environment and Climate Change has taken significant steps to enhance natural vegetation and rehabilitate terrestrial ecosystems by organizing a public awareness event to plant a natural meadow in the north of the country.

According to Qatar News Agency, the event was spearheaded by the ministry's Wildlife Development Department and focused on planting the Umm Juwayfah meadow in Al Ghuwairiya town, located within the Al Khor and Thakhira municipality.

This initiative is part of the 2026 desert meadow planting season, which aims to restore natural habitats, protect biodiversity, and promote sustainable environmental practices throughout Qatar's wilderness areas.

The event gathered environmental specialists and stakeholders, featuring field activities centered around meadow planting. It also included awareness activities that emphasized the importance of rehabilitating natural areas and preserving native wild plants to maintain ecological balance.

The ministry highlighted that such initiatives play a crucial role in restoring the natural characteristics of affected sites and improving vegetation cover, thereby providing suitable habitats for wildlife. Furthermore, the ministry reaffirmed its commitment to conserving meadows and reducing harmful practices, aligning with the environmental sustainability goals outlined in Qatar National Vision 2030.
