Doha: The State of Qatar actively participated in an international conference on Jerusalem, titled "Jerusalem: The Frontline of Displacement and Annexation and the Key to Achieving a Just and Lasting Peace." The event, organized by the United Nations Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People (CEIRPP) in partnership with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), took place in Cairo, Egypt.

According to Qatar News Agency, the Qatari delegation was led by Minister Plenipotentiary, Deputy Ambassador to Egypt, and Deputy Permanent Representative to the League of Arab States, Maryam bint Ahmed Al Shibi. The conference was a platform to discuss the protection of Jerusalem's unique multi-religious character and its significance as a symbol of coexistence. The discussions addressed the challenges faced by Palestinians in occupied East Jerusalem, such as displacement and dispossession, and emphasized the importance of maintaining the city's historical and legal status quo.

The conference underscored Jerusalem's historical and legal status as crucial for achieving peace and stability. Participants highlighted the restrictions on freedom of worship, threats to holy sites, and the impact of Israeli settlement expansion on Jerusalem's identity. The international community's role in preserving Jerusalem's cultural and religious character under international law was also emphasized.

The event's agenda featured two panel discussions bringing together religious leaders, policymakers, and experts. These discussions focused on safeguarding the holy city and its historical sites, as well as preserving Palestinian rights and sovereignty in Jerusalem and the occupied Palestinian territories in the face of displacement policies and illegal settlement expansion.
