Saudi Arabia Reaffirms Right to Self-Defense Amid Houthi Attacks Condemnation

Riyadh:Saudi Arabia has reiterated its right under international law to take necessary measures to defend its security and protect its citizens and residents. This follows a United Nations Security Council statement condemning attacks against the kingdom.

According to Qatar News Agency, the Saudi foreign ministry welcomed the Security Council's presidential statement, which condemned attacks by Yemen's Houthi group on Saudi Arabia. The statement highlighted assaults on civilian sites, airports, energy infrastructure, and ongoing threats to shipping in the Red Sea and the Bab Al Mandeb Strait, a crucial maritime passage connecting the Red Sea to the Gulf of Aden.

Saudi Arabia emphasized the necessity of fully implementing Security Council Resolution 2216, adopted in 2015, along with subsequent resolutions. The foreign ministry also urged for practical cooperation to prevent the Houthis from acquiring weapons and other support forms.

The kingdom expressed gratitude to Security Council members for showing solidarity against attacks targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure within Saudi territory.
