Baghdad: UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said that the situation in the Gaza Strip is beyond description. In remarks made in Baghdad, Guterres emphasized that imposing a policy of blockade and starvation is a disregard for international law, urging the immediate entry of humanitarian aid.
According to Qatar News Agency, Guterres highlighted the urgent need for a permanent ceasefire, the unconditional release of all hostages, and the free flow of humanitarian aid. He also pointed out the necessity of working towards a two-state solution. Guterres mentioned that the high-level conference scheduled for next June, co-chaired by France and Saudi Arabia, presents an important opportunity to address these issues.
In a related context, Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Tom Fletcher issued a statement calling for the rapid, safe, and unhindered delivery of aid to civilians in need. He stated that the United Nations and its humanitarian partners have the expertise, determination, and moral clarity to deliver aid on the scale necessary to save lives throughout Gaza.
