Doha: The Shura Council, in cooperation with the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), will hold a parliamentary forum on Tuesday titled “Investing in People and Institutions: The Role of Parliamentarians in Social Development”, on the sidelines of the Second Global Social Development Summit hosted by Qatar from 4 to 6 November. HE Speaker of the Shura Council, Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanem, will deliver the opening speech at the forum, alongside the Secretary-General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, Martin Chungong.
According to Qatar News Agency, the forum will take place at the Qatar National Convention Center, the venue for the summit, and will include a panel discussion titled “Building Bridges for Inclusive Development”. Parliamentarians and social development stakeholders will discuss topics such as human investment, expanding economic participation, and strengthening the role of institutions in related fields.
Speakers from various organizations, including representatives from the European Parliament, the United Nations Development Programme, and the Global Policy Forum, will explore ways to enhance collaboration among sectors and partners. Their goal is to develop more effective solutions to address social development challenges.
The session will be moderated by HE Member of the Shura Council and member of the IPU Standing Committee on Sustainable Development, Yousuf bin Ali Al Khater. It aims to highlight practical experiences and successful models, with the intention of producing actionable recommendations that support parliamentary work in social development.
HE Deputy Speaker of the Shura Council and Vice-Chair of the IPU Executive Committee, Dr. Hamda bint Hassan Al Sulaiti, will deliver the closing remarks. The remarks will summarize the insights and ideas discussed by participants during the forum.
The Tashkent Declaration, adopted during the 150th session of the IPU General Assembly in April, reaffirmed parliaments worldwide commitment to prioritizing social development in their legislative agendas.
