Doha: Saudi Arabian Football Federation president has resigned following the national team's elimination from the group stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Yasser Al Misehal said in a statement posted on X on Monday that his seven-year tenure as president of the federation had come to an end and that he was taking full responsibility for the disappointing campaign.According to Qatar News Agency, Al Misehal expressed gratitude to those who had collaborated with him during his time in office and pledged his continued support for Saudi football. His resignation comes in the wake of Saudi Arabia's early exit from the tournament after finishing bottom of Group H with two points. The team managed to draw with Uruguay and Cape Verde but suffered a defeat against Spain, which ultimately prevented them from advancing to the knockout stage.Al Misehal had been leading the federation since 2019 and was instrumental in Saudi Arabia's successful bid to host the 2034 FIFA World Cup.
