Doha:Qatar The State of Qatar has reaffirmed its dedication to combating drug trafficking, enhancing integrity, preventing and fighting corruption, and promoting transparency on a global scale.
According to Qatar News Agency, this commitment was expressed by Amina Abdullah Salat, Third Secretary at Qatar's Permanent Mission to the United Nations, during the 81st session of the UN General Assembly's Third Committee. The agenda focused on crime prevention, criminal justice, and international drug control.
Salat emphasized Qatar's collaboration with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), highlighting the establishment of the UNODC Regional Center for Combating Cybercrime in Doha. This center aims to bolster global efforts in preventing and combating cybercrime through innovative and integrated methods.
Qatar's proactive stance was further demonstrated by its signing of the UN Convention against Cybercrime in October 2025 and its ratification in February 2026, making it one of the initial countries to ratify the convention.
Salat also pointed out Qatar's active involvement in the 15th UN Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice held in Abu Dhabi from September 26 to October 1, 2026.
Qatar's longstanding efforts to promote good governance, the rule of law, crime prevention, and criminal justice were underscored by Salat. She cited Doha's hosting of the 13th UN Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice in 2015, which led to the adoption of the Doha Declaration. This declaration aimed to integrate crime prevention and criminal justice into the broader UN agenda to tackle socioeconomic challenges and strengthen the rule of law both nationally and internationally.
Additionally, Salat highlighted Qatar's hosting of the 11th Conference of the States Parties to the UN Convention against Corruption in December 2025. The conference concluded with the adoption of the Doha Declaration 2025, focusing on enhancing international cooperation, technical assistance, and the use of artificial intelligence systems to prevent and combat corruption.
