Qatar Engages in High-Level Panel on Fair Recruitment in Geneva

Geneva: The State of Qatar participated in the high-level panel session of the International Conference on Fair Recruitment, convened in Geneva, Switzerland. Representing the State of Qatar at the session was HE Minister of Labour Dr. Ali bin Samikh Al Marri.

According to Qatar News Agency, in attendance were HE Director-General of the International Labour Organization (ILO), Gilbert Houngbo, HE General Secretary of the International Trade Union Confederation, Luc Triangle, and HE Secretary-General of the International Organisation of Employers, Roberto Suarez Santos. Qatar’s participation in this event follows its co-chairmanship of the Advisory Committee of the Fair Recruitment Initiative for the 2024-2026 term.

The session, held under the theme ‘Call to Action to Accelerate Progress and Commitments to Fair Recruitment for Decent Work’, explored ways to fast-track progress and secure tangible commitments in the area of fair recruitment, recognizing it as a cornerstone for achieving social justice. The State of Qatar views fair recruitment as both a moral obligation and a core pillar of building an enduring and productive work environment, as underlined by HE Al Marri.

His Excellency weighed in during the panel session, highlighting the measures and reforms implemented by the State of Qatar over recent years to bolster labor sector governance and safeguard the rights of both parties to the contractual relationship, namely employers and workers. The State of Qatar has signed an agreement to extend technical cooperation with the ILO, thereby contributing to the continued advancement of the work environment and the reinforcement of international standards, HE Al Marri highlighted.

He stressed that the future of fair recruitment is not solely built within nations’ boundaries, but through bridges of collaboration, mutual respect, and integration of roles among nations, culminating in the deepening of social justice on the global stage.
