Qatar Cup 2026: Al Rayyan Reaches the Final Following Al Shamal Win

Doha: Al Rayyan advanced to the final of the 2026 Qatar Cup after defeating Al Shamal 5-4 on penalties in their semifinal at Jassim bin Hamad Stadium this evening, following a 3-3 draw in regulation time.

According to Qatar News Agency, the intense match saw France's Wesley Said score twice for Al Shamal in the 27th and 63rd minutes, while Tunisia's Mohamed Ali Ben Romdhane added another goal in the 54th minute. On the other side, Brazil's Roger Guedes scored in the 24th and 74th minutes for Al Rayyan, with the second goal coming from the penalty spot. Belgium's Julien De Sart managed to equalize in the 90+6th minute, pushing the match into a penalty shootout.

In the decisive penalty shootout, De Sart, Brazil's Wesley Ribeiro, Ahmed Al Rawi, Guedes, and Portugal's Andre Amaro successfully converted their shots for Al Rayyan. Unfortunately, Brazil's Gregore Favero missed his attempt. Al Shamal's penalty scorers included Spain's Alex Collado, Algeria's Nassim Ben Aissa, Musab Khader, and Abdelkarim Hassan, but Fahad Waad and Ben Romdhane missed their crucial shots.

Al Rayyan is set to face Al Sadd in the final, scheduled for December 11 at Jassim bin Hamad Stadium. Al Sadd had earlier secured their place in the final with a 2-1 victory over Al Gharafa.
