Qatar and UK Pledge to Double Joint Humanitarian Funding to $100 Million.

London: HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani and HH Consort of HH the Amir Sheikha Jowaher bint Hamad bin Suhaim Al-Thani arrived at the Royal Horse Guards Parade in London as part of their state visit to the United Kingdom, invited by HM King Charles III. During this significant visit, HH the Amir also paid a visit to the Palace of Westminster, seat of the UK Parliament, and met with HRH Heir Apparent to the Throne Prince William, Prince of Wales, at Kensington Palace.

According to Qatar News Agency, the visit has marked a historic announcement where Qatar and the United Kingdom have committed to doubling their joint humanitarian and development funding to $100 million. This decision underscores the strengthening bilateral relations between the two nations. Additionally, HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani met with HE UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy, further solidifying diplomatic ties.

In other developments, HE Minister of Environme
nt and Climate Change Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie led Qatar’s delegation at the One Water Summit in Saudi Arabia. The State of Qatar also participated in the 16th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP16) of the UNCCD and the 23rd session of the Assembly of States Parties to the International Criminal Court.

Furthermore, HE Minister of Social Development and Family Buthaina bint Ali Al Jabr Al Nuaimi recognized the winners of the Theater Festival for Persons with Disabilities in the Gulf Cooperation Council, highlighting Qatar’s commitment to social development. The nation continues to emphasize the promotion of human heritage as part of its National Strategy (2024 – 2030), aiming to align with the Sustainable Development Goals and Qatar National Vision 2030.

The State of Qatar also participated in the Partnership Summit 2024 in New Delhi, reinforcing its international collaborations. Moreover, Qatar has called for global support for humanitarian responses for Palestinian refugees,
stressing the importance of aiding the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East in fulfilling its mandate.
