Jenin: The Palestinian Prisoners’ Society and Commission of Detainees announced on Sunday the death of a Palestinian prisoner from Jenin in Israeli occupation prisons. In a joint statement, the two organizations reported that they were informed by the General Authority for Civil Affairs of the prisoner’s death at Gannot Prison. This incident increases the number of prisoners who have died in Israeli custody since the beginning of the conflict in Gaza on October 7, 2023, to 81, with identities confirmed, amid ongoing enforced disappearances affecting numerous detainees.
According to Qatar News Agency, following the ceasefire agreement in Gaza on October 10, the Israeli occupation prison administration intensified its abuses. Testimonies from recently released detainees provide evidence of severe torture and summary executions, as indicated by the condition of the bodies returned under the agreement.
Data documented by prisoners’ rights organizations highlights that this period represents the most violent phase in the history of the Palestinian prisoners’ movement since 1967. The total number of confirmed prisoner deaths in Israeli custody has now reached 318.
