Gaza: The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has strongly condemned the Israeli occupation forces’ bombing of a camp sheltering journalists in Khan Younis city in the southern Gaza Strip, which resulted in the martyrdom of a journalist and injured other media professionals.
According to Qatar News Agency, the OIC emphasized that such an act constitutes a gross violation of press freedom and underscores the unrelenting Israeli policies that aim to suppress the truth, muffle voices, cover up its crimes, and withhold them from global opinion.
The organization held the Israeli occupation authorities fully responsible for the martyrdom of over 210 journalists and media practitioners since the onset of the crime of genocide on the Gaza Strip. The OIC reiterated its call on the International Court of Justice (ICJ) to complete the investigation into all crimes being perpetrated by Israel, the occupying power, against civilians, including media professionals and journalists who are exposed to homicide, arbitrary detention, and physical assaults due to their jobs.
Furthermore, the OIC urged concerned international institutions, particularly UNESCO, to take possible measures to ensure the prosecution of criminals and provide essential protection to press freedom and the safety of journalists operating in the occupied Palestinian territory, in accordance with international humanitarian law and relevant international conventions.
