Netanyahu’s Rejection of Peace Roadmap Challenges International Will

Doha: In a recent editorial, Al-Sharq newspaper highlighted the significant implications of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's rejection of the 15-point roadmap intended to advance the peace process in the Gaza Strip. Netanyahu's firm stance against the establishment of a Palestinian state in Gaza or the West Bank is perceived as defying international consensus and jeopardizing the prospects of achieving a just and comprehensive settlement.

According to Qatar News Agency, the State of Qatar, alongside other mediating countries, has repeatedly condemned Israel's ongoing violations of the roadmap. These nations emphasize the importance of Israel adhering to international law and fulfilling its commitments under the ceasefire agreement. Notably, Hamas and other Palestinian factions have shown willingness to comply with the roadmap, particularly concerning the disarmament of armed groups. Despite these developments, persistent Israeli violations threaten the path to de-escalation and undermine efforts to reinforce the ceasefire, exacerbating the humanitarian situation in Gaza.

Al-Sharq's editorial concluded by urging the international community to take decisive action to pressure Israel into meeting its obligations. This step is deemed crucial for preserving the peace process, establishing a sustainable truce, and ultimately alleviating the humanitarian suffering in Gaza.

Al-Watan newspaper expressed skepticism about achieving genuine peace without Israel's commitment to withdrawing from occupied territories. The paper argues that ambiguous Israeli positions and continued attacks erode any chances of a breakthrough. Moreover, Al-Watan cautioned against pinning hopes on the outcomes of the upcoming Israeli elections, citing an opinion poll where 54% of respondents opposed the proposed roadmap for Gaza.

Al-Watan further criticized Netanyahu and his right-wing allies for deflecting responsibility for stalled negotiations by blaming the Palestinians. The newspaper sees this as a distortion of facts, noting the international community's failure to adequately address this narrative, which hampers efforts to find a just solution to the Palestinian issue.

On a different note, The Peninsula, an English-language newspaper, reported encouraging foreign direct investment (FDI) figures in Qatar. The National Planning Council noted a 3.3% rise in inward FDI in the first quarter of 2026, reaching QR 172.2 billion. This growth, in collaboration with the Qatar Central Bank, underscores the enduring confidence in Qatar's economic stability amid global uncertainties.

The Peninsula highlighted that mining and quarrying dominate the FDI landscape, accounting for 45.3%, followed by financial and insurance activities at 31.9%. The newspaper also noted the simultaneous rise in outward FDI to QR 221.7 billion, reflecting Qatar's dual role as both an investment hub and an active international investor.

The Peninsula emphasized Qatar's solid foundation of political stability, regulatory clarity, and world-class infrastructure, which continue to attract international investors. The paper concluded that ongoing policy efforts to enhance the investment climate, especially in innovative industries, are vital for maintaining positive economic momentum and yielding broader benefits for Qatar's economy in the future.
