Doha: Japan's Nikkei closed lower on Tuesday, weighed down by a sharp rise in bond yields that pressured shares of major technology companies. The tech-heavy Nikkei was down 0.2% at 66,215.34, although the benchmark flitted between losses and gains in early trade. The broader Topix, however, rose 0.6% to 4,181.86.
According to Qatar News Agency, both Japanese and US government bond yields rose to fresh highs on Tuesday. Shares of chip-making tool manufacturer Tokyo Electron fell 2.6%, while the biggest decliners in percentage terms were cable makers Furukawa Electric and Fujikura, which lost 4% and 3.7%, respectively. In contrast, shares of Toyota rose nearly 3%, while Nissan rose 3.2%.
