International Forum on Algerian Heritage Convenes Tuesday

Doha: The First International Forum on Algerian Manuscript Heritage in Global Repositories from discovery to publication is set to convene next Tuesday with the participation of Algerian and foreign researchers. Organized by Abbes Laghrour University of Khenchela in partnership with the Supreme Council of the Arabic Language in Algeria, the two-day event highlights the factors that contributed to the diffusion of Algeria’s manuscript heritage across the globe, along with the historical circumstances that enabled its transfer beyond national borders, and the pathways for its repatriation alongside the prerequisites for its safeguarding and preservation.

According to Qatar News Agency, Chairman of the forum, Dr. Abdelkader Rahhoun, highlighted that the forum will discuss seven themes, including a critical examination of the underlying causes behind the displacement of Algeria’s manuscript heritage, the current state of Algerian manuscript holdings in global repositories, the challenges associated with cataloging this heritage, and the prospects for its repatriation and protection.

He indicated that the event would feature 118 scholarly contributions from professors and researchers representing four international universities and 32 Algerian institutions. A parallel exhibition showcasing Algeria’s manuscript heritage will also be held in conjunction with the forum.
