Doha: The Arab League has condemned the targeting of the Saudi hospital in El Fasher city in western Sudan, which resulted in the loss of innocent civilian lives, describing it as a blatant violation of international and humanitarian law in Sudan.
According to Qatar News Agency, Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, issued a statement on Sunday denouncing the arson attack at Al-Jaili oil refinery in the north of Khartoum. He emphasized that there is a systematic targeting of vital facilities across the country, which exacerbates the already deteriorating economic situation and increases the suffering of the Sudanese people.
The statement highlighted the necessity of adhering to the outcomes of the Jeddah agreement for ceasefire and humanitarian arrangements, signed in May 2023. This agreement calls for the respect and protection of all public and medical facilities, including hospitals and essential infrastructure like water and electricity installations, and prohibits their use for military purposes.
