Advisor to Prime Minister Highlights Qatar’s Mediation Role at Stockholm Forum

Stockholm: Advisor to the Prime Minister and Official Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr. Majed bin Mohammed Al Ansari participated in a panel discussion at the Stockholm Peace and Development Forum. The panel, titled “The Changing Geopolitical Landscape and the Future of Mediation: A Nordic and Gulf Perspective,” was sponsored by Sweden’s Folke Bernadotte Academy (FBA).

According to Qatar News Agency, the panel explored the significant shifts in the international peace and security landscape under a multipolar world order. The forum highlighted the emergence of new mediation actors such as India, China, the Gulf states, and Turkiye, alongside traditional powers and international organizations.

The discussion focused on the trend towards fragmented ceasefire arrangements, rather than comprehensive peace agreements, and emphasized the need to reassess the role and tools of mediation. It also underscored opportunities for collaboration between Nordic countries and Gulf states, aiming to exchange expertise and enhance adaptation to geopolitical changes, thereby contributing to the effectiveness of peace efforts.

In his remarks, Dr. Al Ansari highlighted the State of Qatar’s role as a trusted mediator in resolving conflicts and crises. He discussed the successes of Qatari diplomacy in addressing complex issues and its significant contribution to enhancing security and stability at both regional and international levels. Dr. Al Ansari noted that Qatar’s success in mediation is grounded in strategic engagement, tactical neutrality, long-term investment, commitment, and partnership.
