5.5-Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Off Indonesia’s Tanimbar Islands

Tanimbar: A 5.5-magnitude earthquake struck the Indonesian islands of Tanimbar Sunday.

According to Qatar News Agency, the Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG) said in a statement that the epicenter of the earthquake was 181 kilometers northwest of Tanimbar, at a depth of 124 kilometers.

There have been no reports of damage or casualties from the earthquake, and no tsunami warnings have been issued.

Earthquakes regularly hit various parts of Indonesia, as the country lies on the Pacific ‘Ring of Fire,’ where many tectonic plates meet, leading to frequent volcanic and seismic activity.
