Minister of Culture Lays Foundation Stone for Voltaire Library and Museum in Doha

Doha: HE Minister of Culture Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Hamad Al-Thani, alongside HE Chairman of the Board of the Qatari-French School Voltaire Dr. Ali bin Fetais Al Marri, laid the foundation stone for the Voltaire Library and Museum in Doha. The ceremony took place at the Voltaire School’s Al Waab branch, attended by several cultural and diplomatic figures.

According to Qatar News Agency, Dr. Ibrahim bin Saleh Al Nuaimi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, reiterated the ministry’s commitment to educational diversity, highlighting the presence of multiple French and international schools in Qatar. He mentioned that the Voltaire Library and Museum will serve as a global hub for French culture in Qatar, benefiting students, researchers, and the general public.

Dr. Al Nuaimi stated that the project exemplifies a modern model linking culture with education across academic levels. This initiative aims to contribute to the intellectual growth of students and prepare them to become knowledgeable future citizens. The ministry also supports all schools in Qatar, including Voltaire School, and is keen on launching significant cultural initiatives like this, hoping for similar projects in other institutions.

Covering an area of 8,000 square meters within the school campus, the Voltaire Library and Museum stands as a pioneering cultural initiative. It aims to preserve the legacy of the French Enlightenment philosopher Voltaire and promote intellectual dialogue and cross-cultural exchange.

The project will include a specialized library, reading and research spaces, and a theater with advanced sound technology. The museum will also exhibit Voltaire’s personal belongings and letters, providing visitors with insights into his life and intellectual contributions.
