Doha: The Department of Zakat Affairs at the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs (Awqaf) has announced that the total assistance provided to beneficiaries in Qatar during 2024 reached QAR 212.237 million, benefiting thousands of residents across the country.
According to Qatar News Agency, Awqaf’s efforts are aligned with approved regulations and laws, ensuring that Zakat funds are directed to rightful beneficiaries in accordance with Islamic principles. Malallah Abdul Rahman Al Jaber, Director of Awqaf’s Zakat Affairs Department, emphasized the department’s commitment to diligently processing assistance requests. The donors have entrusted the department to deliver Zakat funds to eligible needy families within Qatar.
Al Jaber explained that the Zakat Disbursements Section verifies applicants’ eligibility by checking data and documents, conducting research, and ensuring the rightful distribution of funds. The department maintains a comprehensive database of eligible recipients, encompassing around 30,000 files.
The Department of Zakat Affairs facilitates Zakat collection through various channels, including collection offices, smart applications, websites, and ATMs, allowing individuals and companies to contribute easily and securely throughout the year. Al Jaber highlighted Zakat’s role as a fundamental pillar of Islam, promoting social solidarity and supporting needy families.
Muhammad Hassan Al Tamimi, Head of the Zakat Disbursements Section, detailed the types of assistance provided, which include financial aid, tuition fee coverage, therapeutic assistance, and in-kind support like Zakat Al Fitr and charity baskets. He assured that Zakat funds are entirely disbursed within Qatar, with applications for assistance processed electronically and undergoing rigorous verification.
The application process involves electronic submission through the department’s app or website, with documents verified before being assessed by a social researcher. The application is then reviewed by a competent committee and a forensic researcher to ensure compliance with regulations, leading to the final disbursement to beneficiaries.
Mohammed Ahmed Al Sayed, Head of the Collection and Zakat Accounts at Zakat Fund, reported that QAR 192.717 million was provided as financial assistance, while in-kind assistance totaled QAR 19.520 million. He affirmed that the collected Zakat is fully distributed to beneficiaries without administrative deductions, urging individuals to fulfill their Zakat obligations due to its positive societal impact.
The department offers multiple Zakat collection channels, including smart device applications, collection points in markets and complexes, online payments, ATMs, and bank transfers, ensuring accessibility for all contributors.
