UN Greatly Shocked over Rising Number of Deaths Among Immigrants

The United Nations high commissioner for human rights Volker Turk has criticized the lack of international attention to the increasing number of deaths among immigrants, especially those who die by drowning.

Addressing the UN Human Rights Council on Monday, Turk said he is shocked by the spiked deaths among immigrants, adding that more immigrants and refugees are apparently dying without being noticed by anyone.

He pointed out that over 2300 persons have either died or went missing in the Mediterranean Sea this year, including over 600 in drowning incidents off Greece last June.

Immigration spiked in multiple territories of the world, specially through crossing the seas with an increasing spate of crises in various countries prompting many young people to opt for immigration.
