Baghdad: Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein and his Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan signed on Sunday the implementation mechanism for the bilateral cooperation agreement on water resources. Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al Sudani, who attended the signing ceremony, said the agreement represents “one of the sustainable solutions to Iraq’s water crisis” through a series of major joint projects in the water sector aimed at addressing and managing water scarcity.
According to Qatar News Agency, Al Sudani emphasized the importance of following up on the outcomes agreed upon during the Turkish president’s visit to Baghdad last year, noting that the water crisis is a global challenge, and that Iraq is among the countries most affected by it. He added that the financing mechanism agreement will further strengthen bilateral relations with Turkey and help expand cooperation across various sectors, serving the shared interests of both nations.
For his part, the Turkish foreign minister praised the current Iraqi government’s efforts to enhance bilateral relations, which have led to the signing of numerous agreements and memoranda of understanding across multiple fields.
