Seoul: South Korea's automobile exports recorded a 13.7 percent increase on a year-on-year basis in November, thanks to a marked rise in shipments of eco-friendly and hybrid models.
According to Qatar News Agency, data released by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy on Sunday revealed that the value of automobile exports reached USD 6.4 billion in November, up 13.7 percent year-on-year, marking the second-largest value for any November on record. This was attributed to a base effect, as exports declined in November of last year due to snow-related shipping disruptions.
Exports of eco-friendly vehicles jumped 23.4 percent on-year last month to 78,436 units, recording an on-year increase for the eleventh consecutive month. Among eco-friendly models, exports of hybrid cars rose 39.8 percent to 54,296 units in November.
By destination, exports to the United States increased 5.1 percent on-year last month to USD 2.69 billion, ending an eight-month consecutive decline affected by the new tariff policy adopted by the US administration. Exports to the European Union rose 3.4 percent to USD 820 million, while exports to Asian countries and the Middle East increased by 32.1 percent and 8.0 percent to USD 730 million and USD 520 million, respectively.
