S. Korea and Russia Engage in Talks on North Korea’s Nuclear Program

Moscow: South Korea and Russia held closed-door talks in Moscow focusing on North Korea's nuclear program and other pressing regional security issues. According to Yonhap News Agency, diplomatic sources revealed that a South Korean Foreign Ministry official, responsible for North Korean nuclear issues, conducted meetings with Oleg Burmistrov, the Russian foreign ministry's ambassador-at-large for the North Korean nuclear issue, along with other relevant officials.

According to Qatar News Agency, The South Korean representative urged Russia to adopt a constructive approach to maintaining peace on the Korean Peninsula, as Seoul aims to reopen dialogue with North Korea in the upcoming year.

This recent meeting marks the first encounter between officials tasked with the North Korean file from Seoul and Moscow since October 2024. This follows a significant downturn in bilateral relations after news surfaced about North Korea deploying its forces to support Russia in Ukraine. Prior to this, the two countries' foreign ministers met in September of this year.
