Qatar University (QU) Biomedical science department welcomed their new students through an orientation session held by Dr. Marawan Abu-Madi the program director, Ms. Ofelia Al-Otaibi and Ms. Sumbul Bushra. Orientation event was presented to the students, the vision and mission of our department was discussed.
The vision of the department is to prepare medical technologists and researchers by way of an accredited and standardized education to apply their knowledge and skills to enhance the healthcare sector in Qatar.
The mission of the department is Providing quality education that prepares competent Biomedical Scientists, equipping them with theoretical and practical knowledge, critical thinking and analytical skills, scientific research abilities, and communication skills, while also emphasizing ethical practice within the healthcare industry.
Following that Ms. Sumbul who works as a teaching assistant, explained to students the degree requirements and their study plan. Statistics has shown the biomedical sciences community is growing in Qatar as applicants keeps increasing reaching this semester to 49 were 17 of them was accepted.
Biomedical sciences department at Qatar University has a NAACLS accreditation for 10 years that provide to the graduates a chance to take Board of Certification of the American Society of Clinical Pathology Examination (ASCP). Graduates passing average rate of ASCP exam between 2015 and 2018 was 73%. Moreover, biomedical sciences graduates employed in various laboratories such as Hamad medical co-operation, Sidra, Biobank and Qatar University.
