qUN Warns of Rapid Deterioration in Occupied West Bank

Doha: On Tuesday warned of the rapid deterioration of the situation in the West Bank, condemning the rising settler violence against Palestinians.

According to Qatar News Agency, in a brief before the UN Security Council, Deputy Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process Ramiz Alekperov highlighted that over the past week, the escalation in the West Bank has resulted in civilian casualties, displacement, property damage, and a growing sense of insecurity within the affected communities.

Alekperov pointed out that Israeli settlers continue to attack Palestinian communities, targeting homes, places of worship, and infrastructure. He urged Israel to implement immediate and effective measures to prevent these acts, safeguard Palestinian communities, and ensure accountability for the perpetrators.

He further cautioned that the rapid deterioration in the West Bank could worsen the situation across the occupied Palestinian territory. Alekperov warned of the potential for a wide-scale escalation unless steps are taken promptly to reverse this trend.

Earlier, the Palestinian Cabinet expressed concern over the grave consequences of the increasing settler attacks in the West Bank, which have led to the killing of unarmed Palestinians and significant destruction and arson of property and mosques. The Cabinet reported 225 assaults, including 152 raids on cities and villages, in the past week alone.
