QU AND MINISTRY OF EDUCATION AND HIGHER EDUCATION JOIN HANDS TO RAISE AWARENESS IN STUDENTS TO ENROLL IN SCIENTIFIC AND TECHNOLOGICAL FIELD

Qatar University (QU) Student Affairs Sector in cooperation with the Academic and Career Counseling Department at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MOEHE) organized an awareness program for eighth and ninth graders to increase the number of students enrolled in the Scientific and Technological tracks.

The event will run for three weeks from October 21 to November 10 in cooperation with the Health Cluster, College of Engineering, and College of Arts and Sciences at QU.

Dr. Eiman Mustafawi, Vice President for Student Affairs, commented: “Human, social, and economic development is a fundamental pillar of Qatar National Vision 2030 to achieve the strategic goals of the State of Qatar. This initiative aims to prepare a generation capable of achieving these goals. The initiative aims to develop a professional academic advising system that leads to an increase in the number of students enrolled in scientific and technological disciplines by creating a passion for science among students at an early stage in their lives.”

“This initiative is implemented in partnership between the Student Affairs Sector at Qatar University and the Academic and Career Counseling Department at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education. The initiative targets middle school students (eighth and ninth grades). During this event, students will be engaged in a variety of programs, events and activities to enhance their knowledge and expertise in various fields of science and technology.” Dr. Eiman adds.

Prof. Ahmad Ayesh, Consultant of Vice President for Student Affairs, said: “The event targets eighth and ninth grade students in 10 schools, with approximately 3,000 students. A general program will be offered to all students remotely, while an interactive program will be offered inside the Qatar University campus for the outstanding students. The event will run for three weeks from October 21 to November 10. This event is held in partnership with the Consortium of Health Colleges, College of Engineering, and College of Arts and Sciences at Qatar University. Students will be engaged with interactive activities in various fields including engineering, medicine, health, science, computer, technology, etc. The event contributes in enhancing the knowledge and skills of students, which contributes to directing them to join scientific and technological tracks and specializations.”

In a statement, Mr. Ahmed Nasser Al-Balam, Head of the Academic and Career Counselling Department in the Educational Guidance Department at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, said: “The Ministry of Education aims, through the academic and vocational guidance initiative directed at middle school students, to raise early awareness and raise the level of knowledge of students of various scientific and technological disciplines which increase students’ orientation to these fields that are desperately needed at the state of Qatar. We started last week with an activity at University of Calgary, where students participated in activities related to the nursing profession, and we will continue this week until November 10 with Qatar University activities related to health, science as well as engineering disciplines. There will be field visits during the coming period for the students of the preparatory stage for the laboratories to learn about various professions and specializations by involving them in the programs of living the work environment, and here I can only express my sincere thanks to all the academic institutions and the labor sector institutions cooperating with us, as the results of this initiative are expected to have a positive impact on Tajweed the process of selecting our students for their educational paths and university specializations in a manner consistent with their inclinations, abilities and the state needs of specializations away from randomness.”
