Cairo: The State of Qatar participated in the 163rd Ordinary Session of the Council of the League of Arab States at the level of Permanent Representatives, held at the league’s General Secretariat headquarters in Cairo. The delegation was led by HE Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Egypt and Permanent Representative to the League of Arab States, Tariq Ali Faraj Al-Ansari.
According to Qatar News Agency, HE Al Ansari emphasized that the meeting serves as groundwork for the upcoming 163rd Ordinary Session of the Council of the League of Arab States at the level of Foreign Ministers. This session, scheduled for Wednesday, will see HE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi at the helm of Qatar’s delegation.
Al Ansari highlighted that the agenda for the session will address significant issues such as international peace and security, with a primary focus on the ongoing Israeli occupation of Palestine, which remains a central concern for the Arab world. The agenda will also cover the ongoing aggression against Palestinian people, particularly in the Gaza Strip, alongside resolutions addressing issues in Sudan, Yemen, Lebanon, and Syria. Additional topics include Arab national water security, the occupation of Arab lands, and discussions on Arab economic and development integration. Administrative matters and nominations for various positions, including those concerning Qatar, will also be considered.
The ambassador pointed out that the meeting will review diplomatic efforts by Qatar, including joint mediation with Egypt to end Israeli aggression against Palestinians. Al Ansari mentioned a Qatari proposal to establish a permanent committee on international humanitarian law within the Arab League’s General Secretariat, aimed at fostering expertise exchange and enriching discussions on legal issues related to international humanitarian law.
He concluded by noting the significance of this session as it precedes the Arab Summit planned to be held in Baghdad, with further preparations expected for this major event.
