The Qatar Amateur Radio Society (QARS) participated in the 2023 International Amateur Radio Union (IARU) HF World Championship.
Secretary-General of QARS Sabaan Mismar Mubarak Al Jassim stated that the society has been participating in the competition annually as an IARU society member.
The society’s aim in participating in the competition is to highlight Qatar’s name on a global scale as one of the most supportive countries for radio amateurs in the region, work to motivate the members to participate internationally and achieve advanced positions globally, continentally, and locally, the society stated.
The championship awards a certificate of high registration rank in each category in every ITU region, DXCC country, and ARRL division, a certificate of participation for each IARU station and each station belonging to the Board of Directors and the Regional Executive Committee, and issues Achievement Level Awards to those who score at least 250 QSOS or a multiple of 75 or more. Additional prizes and awards may be awarded at the discretion of IARU members in each country.
QARS aims to develop Radio as a hobby among citizens and regulate its practice under local and international laws, establish human and international relations between amateurs in the State of Qatar and their colleagues abroad, which introduces Qatar and its renaissance, and enables it to participate in the preparation of technical cadres that perform Humanitarian services in emergencies, relief for ships and aircraft, and others.
