PSA Due to Organize Virtual Workshop on Data Visualization

Planning and Statistics Authority (PSA) is due to organize a two-day virtual workshop on data visualization within its permanent endeavors devoted to updating data dissemination process and providing them to users, namely policymakers and decision makers to streamline their works in taking evidence-based informed decisions.

In a statement Sunday, PSA stated that the area of data visualization has been the most sought fields in data science in general and official statistics. It is also one of the powerful and influential tools that enable citizens to comprehend complex information that helps them make decisions to facilitate their daily life.

HE President of Planning and Statistics Authority Dr. Saleh bin Mohammed Al Nabit highlighted the importance of this field in demonstrating the actual value of data to be used and understood more easily, pointing out that PSA will increase its efforts to produce a multitude of data visualizations to understand and perceive all economic, social and environmental phenomena when possible, hailing the engagements of miniseries, government agencies, research centers and universities in this regard.

His Excellency thanked all entities participating in the workshop for their valuable presentations and the support they provided to PSA, pointing out that PSA’s efforts in this field will continue until statistics outcomes that are based on data visualization are prepared on all PSA’s platforms and website.

The workshop aims to highlight the importance of data visualization to take decisions in various societal and development fields, provide tips and guidelines to the attendees on the method of professionally preparing products in this field that are relevant to decision makers’ interests; in accordance with the proposed framework for this work, as well as providing data and visual products to be widely amenable for use.

Several representatives of relevant miniseries and government agencies working in this the area of statistics and IT are participating in this workshop, specially data users from various government agencies, research centers and academic media circles, including a number of local and international experts who offer their expertise in this field, such as Division for Sustainable Development Goals (DSDG), ESCWA, Qatar Computing Research Institute (QCRI) at HBKU, Northwestern University in Qatar, Microsoft Corporation and a contingent of PSA experts.

Data visualization workshop is expected to contribute to understanding the merits of this visualization in decision making process and get familiarized with commercial computer applications used in producing highly valued outcomes.

The attendees will be required to produce visual outcomes in multiple fields such as education, health, labor, environment, social protection, infrastructure, trade, insurance, spending and other fields.

Demand for advanced skills in several fields of data and statistics sciences and their spatial and geographical links is constantly increasing, as data visualization has indubitably become a visual language. It is essential to learn and use its applications as possible, because it can accentuate the streamlined configuration and the meanings of numbers.

In addition, data visualization highlights the multiple relations between various phenomena, while its significance is demonstrated in its types that offer insight for societal patterns and explore new methods in understanding and explaining data. It also builds confidence largely in official statistics pursued by PSA and enables users to track the progress of national development strategies easily and in a streamlined way.
