Davos: HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani, expressed hope that the Gaza ceasefire deal would be a pivotal step toward fostering stability in the region. He emphasized the necessity for both parties to uphold their commitment to the agreement.
According to Qatar News Agency, these remarks were made during a panel discussion titled “Diplomacy in the Midst of Chaos,” part of the 55th session of the World Economic Forum 2025, currently underway in Davos, Switzerland. The discussion was moderated by HE President of the World Economic Forum, Borge Brende. The Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs expressed aspirations for the deal to be the first phase leading to a permanent ceasefire that could resolve the longstanding conflict comprehensively.
His Excellency expressed satisfaction with the humanitarian aid reaching the Gaza Strip and the return of hostages following 15 months of negotiations aimed at resolving the complex conflict. He underscored the importance of both parties to the conflict demonstrating commitment to enforcing the deal for positive outcomes, noting Qatar’s role as a guarantor and mediator in ensuring the deal’s full implementation.
The Prime Minister discussed the potential for the Palestinian authority’s involvement in Gaza’s reconstruction, expressing hope for the formation of a Palestinian government that addresses the real issues faced by Palestinians. He emphasized that this is a matter solely for the Palestinians to decide, without external imposition.
His Excellency mentioned the positive changes in the Middle East over the past year, including Lebanon electing a new president and the end of a regime in Syria. He highlighted cooperation opportunities with the new US Administration under President Donald Trump to achieve regional stability, acknowledging the significant contributions of US Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff in the negotiations.
Regarding his visit to Damascus, the Prime Minister reported receiving promising indications from the new Syrian administration about plans for inclusivity, expressing hope that this would help Syria overcome the aftermath of its 13-year civil war and contribute to regional stability.
