Doha: HE Nasser bin Abdulaziz Al Nasser, President of the 66th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), and former High Representative for the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations, launched his new book, “A Year at the Helm of the United Nations General Assembly: A Vision for our Century,” at a special ceremony held today at Georgetown University – Qatar.
According to Qatar News Agency, the 205-page volume, published by Hamad Bin Khalifa University Press, includes a foreword by former United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and a translation by Atef Othman. The book is structured into six comprehensive chapters, each focusing on significant themes such as universal values, peaceful dispute settlement, UN reform, disaster prevention, sustainable development, and human security challenges.
HE Nasser bin Abdulaziz Al Nasser reflects on the global issues and diplomatic efforts that characterized his presidency of the 66th session of the UN General Assembly. During his tenure, the State of Qatar took an active role in international affairs, contributing constructively to the global dialogue.
In his introduction to the book, HE Al Nasser emphasized his primary role as a mediator and facilitator within the General Assembly. He worked closely with Member States to foster consensus and understanding in intergovernmental negotiations. His duties included leading discussions, promoting dialogue, and enhancing the Assembly’s global image.
HE Al Nasser expressed his aspiration that the book will highlight the importance of the United Nations General Assembly and inspire future presidents to strengthen its influence and effectiveness on the international stage.
