New Syrian Admin. Information Minister to QNA: Media Institutions to Undergo Restructuring for Public Good

Damascus: The new Syrian administration’s Minister of Information Mohamed Al Omar said that a comprehensive analytical study is currently being conducted for each media institution in the country to assess its effectiveness and efficiency.

According to Qatar News Agency, this effort will include evaluating the capabilities of those working in these institutions and repositioning them based on their abilities, with the aim of serving the public interest and focusing on providing responsible and purposeful media.

The Minister of Information added that after the fall of the previous regime, a majority of official Syrian media outlets went out of service, including the official television channel. This resulted in the absence of an official, accredited media outlet representing the state, leading to an increase in the flow of news from unverified sources and the circulation of misleading information, which often compelled official bodies to come out and deny certain claims.

Al Omar said that job inflation and inefficiency have greatly harmed the effectiveness of media institutions. This is why the government is working on restructuring media institutions to ensure competence and efficiency. The ministry has started evaluating all employees to assess their capabilities and provide training and development programs to help employees polish their skills.

The new Syrian administration’s Minister of Information added that all options are on the table with regards to ineffective media institutions.

Concerning the delayed relaunch of the Syrian state television channel, Al Omar explained that the relaunch is inevitable but requires enough time to work on its media content. The new Syrian administration is keen on ensuring that the channel’s content aligns with society’s culture and aspirations, in addition to reflecting the spirit of the new Syria.

Al Omar said that some media institutions’ names will be changed in order to align with new Syria’s values and principles and in service of the public interest.
