MOJ and UNITAR Launch Youth Hackathon for Justice and Innovation

Doha:The Ministry of Justice (MOJ) has announced the launch of the "Youth Hackathon for Justice and Innovation" program, an initiative organized in partnership with the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR). This program aims to bridge the gap between artificial intelligence and the modern rule of law by engaging young legal talent across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) in developing innovative solutions to challenges in the justice sector.

According to Qatar News Agency, the hackathon is part of MOJ's efforts to strengthen the rule of law and advance responsible digital transformation. It is aligned with the ministry's 2025-2030 strategic plan, which focuses on elevating the quality of legal services, building a future-ready workforce, and fostering continuous development and effective institutional partnerships.

The event, scheduled to be held in Doha from March 21-28, 2027, will offer participants specialized training, expert mentorship, and collaborative work opportunities. The program is designed to empower GCC talent to develop innovative legal solutions through practical learning and is anchored in an integrated training framework.

The hackathon will focus on four priority areas responsible use of AI in the justice sector, providing accurate legal information, leveraging technology to improve access to digital legal services, and developing multilingual solutions to overcome barriers to legal information.

Dr. Jassim Saleh Al Kuwari, Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry of Justice for State Lawsuits Affairs and Chairman of the Youth Hackathon for Justice and Innovation, emphasized the strategic priority of youth empowerment and the ministry's commitment to digital transformation in the justice sector. He highlighted the initiative's alignment with the ministry's strategic objectives, including developing capabilities, enhancing legal services through modern technologies, and fostering innovation and continuous learning.

Michelle Giles-McDonough, Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Director of UNITAR, noted that the program offers a significant opportunity to attract talent from GCC member states and invest in human capital and regional cooperation. She stressed the importance of empowering young people to develop practical solutions that address challenges and help shape the future of justice systems.
