Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Wraps Up Training Program for University Students

Doha: The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, represented by the Hazardous Chemicals and Waste Department, has successfully concluded its summer training program tailored for students from Qatar University (QU) and the University of Doha for Science and Technology (UDST). This initiative, which saw the participation of 30 male and female students, is part of the ministry's ongoing efforts to bolster national capacity building, nurture young talents, and enhance their role in the sustainable development process.

According to Qatar News Agency, the ministry stated that the training program spanned nine weeks for UDST students and six weeks for QU students. The program aimed to augment students' understanding of contemporary environmental sustainability concepts and familiarize them with key strategic initiatives and projects undertaken by the ministry in green development, environmental protection, and natural resource management.

The Ministry of Environment highlighted that the initial weeks of the program concentrated on integrating academic knowledge with practical and field applications. This approach enabled students to gain firsthand experience of the ministry's various departmental specializations, thereby honing their skills and preparing them to become qualified national cadres capable of supporting the country's environmental protection and sustainability efforts.

The training for UDST students commenced under the supervision of the Hazardous Chemicals and Waste Department, which coordinated the program's implementation with relevant departments. This allowed students to explore the ministry's specializations and acquire scientific and practical knowledge through specialized lectures, field visits, and hands-on applications.

UDST students engaged in training programs in collaboration with the Radiation Protection Department and the Green Development and Environmental Sustainability Department. Here, they learned about radiation protection basics, safety requirements, safe usage of radiation technologies, and monitoring and inspection protocols.

In addition, students were introduced to the ministry's initiatives in sustainability, circular economy, green finance, biodiversity, and the application of modern technologies and artificial intelligence (AI) in environmental work.

QU students embarked on their training in green development management and environmental sustainability, gaining insights into sustainability concepts, the circular economy, and national initiatives related to these areas. They also presented applied projects aimed at fostering innovation in sustainable environmental solutions.

Their training continued in the Environmental Assessment and Permit Department, where they delved into environmental impact assessment procedures, the issuance of environmental permits, marine environment protection, biodiversity conservation, and issues related to environmental pollution, greenhouse gas emissions, and renewable energy projects.

The ministry reiterated that this program is part of its continuous commitment to developing national talent and strengthening collaboration with academic institutions, thereby preparing young cadres to support Qatar's sustainable development and environmental protection goals.
