HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani said Thursday that today’s visit to Baghdad affirms the depth of the strong and historical fraternal relations between the two countries, and reflects the sincere desire of the two countries to strengthen and consolidate them in various fields, stressing endeavors to develop the relations in the fields of energy, investment, trade and development. This came in His Highness’ joint press statements with HE Prime Minister of the Republic of Iraq Muhammad Shia Al Sudani at the Prime Minister’s Office.
His Highness added that the two sides agreed on the importance of continuous growth of trade exchange between the two countries, noting that the two countries signed a joint Declaration of Intent, a number of agreements and memoranda of understanding, in addition to a number of agreements with the Qatari private sector on energy, electricity and the development of hotels, modern residential buildings and hospital management in Iraq.
HH the Amir added that the talks also included regional initiatives to strengthen economic relations among the countries of the region, including support for developing a project that links the Gulf electrical interconnection system to the southern Iraq network in a bid to provide Iraqi with electricity needs. His Highness also indicated that the State of Qatar participates in the meetings concerned with Iraq’s Development Road initiative.
His Highness added that the talks also touched on the most important regional developments, stressing the importance of dialogue and peaceful means to settle all disputes. His Highness hailed the role of Iraq and its security in the region, stressing Qatar’s continued support for Iraq’s unity and stability, and for the Iraqi people to realize their aspirations for security and development.
HH the Amir also extended congratulations for HE the Prime Minister and the Iraqi people on the successful Gulf Cup hosting, adding that Iraqis are welcome in Qatar for the upcoming Asian Cup finals.
HH the Amir, at the beginning of the press statements, expressed his thanks to HE the Iraqi Prime Minister for the warm reception and hospitality His Highness was accorded.
For his part, HE the Iraqi Prime Minister welcomed HH the Amir, and the accompanying delegation, highlighting the importance of His Highness’ visit to Baghdad, which reflects the depth of the growing relations between the two countries. His Excellency noted that Iraq, with its natural and human capacities and geographical location, and the State of Qatar, with its capabilities and the economic booms it has achieved, can together achieve integration at various levels, which will benefit the two peoples.
His Excellency added that the talks with HH the Amir included several areas, pointing to the signing of a number of agreements and memoranda of understanding in several fields, including the economic and political fields, and Arab, regional and international issues, reiterating His Excellency’s thanks to HH the Amir and his accompanying delegation for this visit.
