German Defense Minister Reveals Military Strategy to Beef Up Army Capabilities

Doha: Germany's Minister of Defense Boris Pistorius has presented a strategy outlining the future direction of the German military amid an increasingly unstable world. Speaking in Berlin on Wednesday, Pistorius unveiled a comprehensive vision for military defense, alongside a military reserve strategy.

According to Qatar News Agency, the strategy identifies Russia as the primary threat, with the country rearming for a military confrontation with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). The German Defense Minister highlighted that Russia considers the use of military force a legitimate tool to impose its interests.

Pistorius further noted that Russia is increasingly relying on hybrid means such as espionage, sabotage, cyberattacks, and disinformation campaigns. These tactics are no longer marginal phenomena and must be confronted, he stated.

The strategy aims to make the German military the strongest conventional army in Europe. It sets short-term goals of strengthening Germany's defense capabilities and resilience, medium-term goals of significantly increasing the military's capabilities comprehensively, and long-term goals of achieving technological superiority, according to the German Defense Minister.
