GCC Secretary General Highlights Critical Role of Gulf Stability in Global Security

Manama:Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, emphasized the critical importance of ensuring stability in the Gulf region as a key component of international peace and security. Speaking at the 22nd Regional Security Summit "IISS Manama Dialogue 2026," Albudaiwi outlined the need for a stable regional security framework grounded in international law, state sovereignty, and collective defense systems.

According to Qatar News Agency, Albudaiwi stressed the indivisibility of GCC states' security and the necessity of diplomatic approaches alongside safeguarding energy supplies and waterways for regional stability. He highlighted the challenges faced since February 28, when Iranian attacks targeted the GCC states, affecting their infrastructure and resulting in casualties despite the GCC not being involved in the conflict.

Albudaiwi noted the global economic repercussions, including disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, a key oil trade route, which impacted energy prices and international supply chains. He underscored that sustainable security in the region requires addressing crises' root causes and fostering development opportunities.

Further, the Secretary General reiterated support for a political resolution in Yemen and emphasized a just solution to the Palestinian issue as essential for lasting peace. He also highlighted the inclusion of water and food security and climate challenges as integral to the concept of regional security.
