Doha:The Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs has announced that the Al-Utrujah Endowment is currently serving more than 34,000 students across the nation. Supported by the General Directorate of Endowments, these students are spread across 176 centers and Quranic schools, where they are taught by over 1,500 male and female teachers.
According to Qatar News Agency, Dr. Masoud Jarallah Abu Shuraida, a preacher at Awqaf, noted that the Al-Utrujah Endowment stands as a leading model for sustaining Quranic education. He explained that the endowment successfully combines asset growth with directing the returns towards supporting Quranic education, ensuring resources for Quranic centers, and expanding their reach.
Abu Shuraida highlighted that the endowment's real estate project, which was inaugurated in 2022 and includes 112 apartments, generates monthly income. This income supports the continuity of the educational mission of the centers and aids in developing their learning environments to adapt to digital and technological advancements.
The rising enrollment of female students in Quranic studies, totaling 9,131, was also underscored by Abu Shuraida. He emphasized the endowment's critical role in addressing the demand for Quranic education among women, thereby strengthening their ties to the Holy Quran and their significant role in family and cultural identity amid evolving intellectual and technological challenges.
Furthermore, Abu Shuraida detailed the management and investment strategies of the General Directorate of Endowments, which operate in line with Islamic Sharia requirements and the intentions of the endowment founders. Their duties include property maintenance, overseeing revenues and expenditures, and risk assessment.
He also explained that the endowment's real estate projects aim to meet both charitable and investment goals. Contributions to the endowment are open to everyone, with shares available for QAR 1,000 or any amount that contributors can afford. The public is encouraged to contribute by spreading awareness of endowments.
Additionally, the Directorate has launched a service on its website and the Awqaf app, allowing users to search for vacant endowed real estate units and submit rental applications online. Abu Shuraida expressed thanks to the endowment founders and benefactors for their support in ensuring the sustainability of Quranic education for future generations.
