Doha: Estudiantes de La Plata were crowned Argentine Champions Trophy winners after edging Platense 2-1 in the final played on Sunday in the Argentine city of San Nicolas.

According to Qatar News Agency, the first half ended in a goalless draw before Platense broke the deadlock in the 50th minute through Franco Zapiola.

Estudiantes, however, restored parity in the 79th minute courtesy of Lucas Alario, bringing the contest back to square one.

In the first minute of stoppage time, Estudiantes snatched a dramatic winning goal after Lucas Alario capitalized on a corner kick delivered by Edwuin Cetre, sending the ball into the net to hand his side the Trofeo de Campeones title.

Estudiantes had reached the Champions Trophy final after clinching the Torneo Clausura title at the expense of Racing Club via penalty shootouts, while Platense featured in the final as the Torneo Apertura champions.
