Doha: Doha Debates, an initiative of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, hosted a town hall event in Toronto, Canada, in partnership with the Years of Culture Qatar-Canada and Mexico 2026 initiative, featuring students from Qatar, Canada, and Mexico.
According to Qatar News Agency, the experience made a strong impact on the 20 participating students, who completed days of workshops and preparation leading up to the debate. The session featured students alongside experts Shireen Ahmed, David Goldblatt, and Kely Nascimento to examine the influence of massive capital inflows on football and its fanbase.
Beyond learning dialogue techniques and football dynamics, participants gained self-confidence and the ability to express their views amidst differing perspectives, outcomes shaped by a preparatory phase designed to help them manage stress, handle opposing views, and build confidence. The event falls under the Years of Culture initiative, which fosters direct engagement and mutual understanding among youth from partner nations, building lasting intercultural ties since its inception in 2012.
