Cairo:The Arab League has issued a strong condemnation of the attacks by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which have used drones to target critical facilities and energy infrastructure in Sudan. These attacks have affected the states of Khartoum, Al Jazirah, Sennar, Al Qadarif, River Nile, and Red Sea.
According to Qatar News Agency, the Arab League reported that these attacks have caused extensive damage, leading to several facilities being forced out of service and disrupting electricity supplies across large areas. This has exacerbated the suffering of civilians in the region.
In a statement released on Monday, the Arab League emphasized that the deliberate targeting of power stations and civilian facilities, which are not military objectives, constitutes a blatant violation of international humanitarian law and amounts to a war crime that necessitates accountability.
The statement further highlighted that these attacks deprive civilians of essential services such as electricity, water, health care, and education. Additionally, they disrupt productive activities and deepen the humanitarian crisis faced by the Sudanese people.
The Arab League reaffirmed its opposition to any attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure. It reiterated its support for Sudan, emphasizing the importance of maintaining the country's unity, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national institutions, as well as protecting Sudan's resources and infrastructure.
