Council of Ministers Secretariat General Holds Panel Discussion for Qatar Sustainability Week

Doha: The Council of Ministers Secretariat General organized a panel discussion on building a sustainable future as part of the Qatar Sustainability Week. The event was attended by HE Minister of Justice and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Ibrahim bin Ali Al Mohannadi, HE Cabinet Secretary-General Hamad bin Ahmed Al Muhannadi, alongside several high-ranking officials and the Secretariat’s functionaries.

According to Qatar News Agency, the initiative is part of the Secretariat’s foremost attention to promoting notions of sustainability within the workplace, stemming from its commitment to empowering employees and enhancing their awareness of sustainable development and its multiple dimensions. This aims to deepen the culture of sustainable development and support the realization of Qatar National Vision 2030.

It also comes as part of the Secretariat’s efforts to foster a culture of quality and innovation, as well as the spirit of initiative among functionaries. The discussion focused on promoting concepts that contribute to the development of government work, including the sustainability of decisions, policies, and procedures, ensuring the continuity of positive impact on the economy, society, and environment alike.

The panel hosted Dr. Mohammed bin Saif Al Kuwari, an environmental expert and engineering consultant at the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, who is also the UN Commissioner for the Promotion of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals and Deputy Chairman of the National Human Rights Committee. He holds two patents in the field of environmental sustainability.

Dr. Al Kuwari delved into a range of consequential themes related to the significance of sustainability, emphasizing the role of staff as effective partners in applying sustainable practices. He reviewed the types of sustainability related to public functions and explored ways to transform traditional work into more sustainable practices.

He also explained successful global models in implementing sustainability, discussed the challenges faced by institutions in this field, and proposed solutions to overcome them. Dr. Al Kuwari highlighted Qatar’s pioneering experiences in sustainability, noting that achieving sustainability requires long-term institutional and societal collaboration. He emphasized that sustainability is a national pathway essential to realizing Qatar National Vision 2030 and beyond.

The session received notable interaction from functionaries, who posed questions and shared ideas about enforcing practical approaches that enhance sustainability in daily life and within the workplace. They expressed their interest in engaging in Secretariat-backed initiatives for sustainability.
