Doha: HE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defence Affairs, Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman bin Hassan Al-Thani, chaired the weekly Cabinet meeting held today at the Amiri Diwan. Following the meeting, HE Minister of Justice and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs, Ibrahim bin Ali Al Mohannadi, conveyed that the Cabinet praised the outcomes of the Lake Lucerne Summit and the first round of high-level talks at the Burgenstock Resort in Switzerland. These discussions were part of a Memorandum of Understanding signed in Islamabad, involving representatives from the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States of America, along with mediators from the State of Qatar and the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.
According to Qatar News Agency, the Cabinet emphasized the success and progress achieved during the negotiations, highlighting the positive atmosphere that set a foundation for a new phase in US-Iran relations. The Cabinet underscored that this progress would enhance mutual trust and the shared belief in the value of peace, emphasizing the necessity of reaching a final agreement consistent with the agreed framework.
The Cabinet expressed pride in the milestone achieved through Qatari diplomacy, facilitated through a constructive partnership with Pakistan. It expressed hope for continued negotiations in the same positive spirit and with genuine determination, aiming for a final agreement that peacefully resolves conflicts, enhances regional and international security, and safeguards the interests of peoples globally.
Further, the Cabinet applauded Qatar's exceptional performance across economic, business, institutional, and social indicators, as highlighted in the 2026 IMD World Competitiveness Yearbook by the International Institute for Management Development (IMD). Qatar ranked first regionally and among the top five globally in Economic Resilience, topped the balance of trade indicator, and recorded the world's lowest unemployment rate.
On a different note, the Cabinet extended condolences and sympathy to the families of victims of the accidental incident at Ras Laffan Industrial City due to a technical malfunction. It prayed for the deceased and wished a speedy recovery for the injured, commending the competent entities for their prompt and efficient response.
The Cabinet also reviewed topics on its agenda, noting the Shura Council's approval of a draft law on food, prepared by the Ministry of Public Health. This law aims to ensure food safety and suitability throughout the food chain, offering consumer protection against food-related risks.
In conclusion, the Cabinet reviewed the 13th Annual Report on the National Committee for International Humanitarian Law's work for 2025 and a report on the outcomes of the 64th Session of the United Nations Commission for Social Development, taking the appropriate decisions thereon.
