Cabinet Approves Key Draft Laws and Resolutions in Weekly Meeting

Doha: HE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defense Affairs Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman bin Hassan bin Ali Al-Thani chaired the Cabinet’s regular meeting held on Wednesday morning at the Amiri Diwan. Following the meeting, HE Minister of Justice and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Ibrahim bin Ali Al Mohannadi provided a summary of the discussions and decisions made.

According to Qatar News Agency, the Cabinet examined several topics on its agenda, including a draft law aimed at amending certain provisions of Law No. 8 of 2012 concerning the Qatar Financial Markets Authority. The proposed amendments are intended to boost the Authority’s institutional efficiency and enhance its supervisory role in regulating financial markets, thus safeguarding investor rights in line with international standards that promote investment.

In addition, the Cabinet approved a draft resolution to reorganize certain administrative units within the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology. This includes the establishment of the National Center for Artificial Intelligence, which will operate under the Ministry’s aegis.

A further draft resolution, proposed by the Chairman of the Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation, was also approved. This resolution pertains to the establishment of a registry for licensing district cooling systems and services.

The Cabinet gave the nod to a draft letter of intent for cooperation in humanitarian aid and development between Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and its counterpart in the Swiss Confederation. Additionally, an air services agreement between Qatar and the Macau Special Administrative Region of China was approved.

The Cabinet reviewed a report from the Ministry of Education and Higher Education on the progress made in the first half of 2025 to implement the National Framework for Promoting Values and Morals in Qatari Society. The Cabinet decided that the Ministry would continue to oversee the implementation of the framework’s objectives in collaboration with relevant authorities.

The meeting concluded with the examination of three reports, which led to appropriate decisions being made. These reports included an evaluation of Qatar’s geographic information system, an assessment of reduced working hours for female employees who are mothers during the mid-year academic leave, and a report on the participation of the Minister of Commerce and Industry in the Third Vision Golfe Forum in Paris, aimed at strengthening economic and trade partnerships between France and the GCC countries.
