BTEA participates in 2nd Arab Tourism Statistics Forum 2024 in Muscat

Muscat, The Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (BTEA) participated in the Second Arab Tourism Statistics Forum 2024, held in Muscat, between October 14-16 and organised by the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism in the Sultanate of Oman and the League of Arab States.

The event was attended by experts and specialists from various Arab countries, in addition to representatives of regional and international organisations concerned with the statistical informatics field and the international tourism sector.

Noura Al Saadoun, Director of the Policy and Planning Department at BTEA, participated in a working paper on Bahrain’s experience in establishing a national system of tourism statistics. She reviewed the phases of work implemented by the Kingdom in establishing the national system for tourism statistics following international recommendations from 2015 up to 2024.

The paper discussed efforts to improve current statistical systems and carry out various surveys. It covered updates on the tourism sub-accou
nt and highlighted how the national statistical system affects the Kingdom’s global tourism ranking. It also looked at the role of statistics in the 2022-2026 Tourism Strategy and future trends in tourism statistics.

The Second Arab Tourism Statistics Forum 2024 aimed to improve cooperation among Arab countries in tourism statistics, supporting the sector and boosting Arab economies. The Kingdom participated to showcase its efforts to achieve tourism goals set in the 2022-2026 Tourism Strategy and strengthen its reputation as a top tourist destination.

The forum focused on the challenges in tourism statistics and how to address them. It discussed the latest trends, technologies, and international standards in tourism indicators. The aim was to enhance regional expertise sharing and promote best practices to improve information systems, attract investors, and understand tourist trends and behaviours.
