Riyadh: An earthquake measuring 5.5 on the Richter scale struck the Indonesian islands of Tanimbar Sunday: An earthquake measuring 5.5 on the Richter scale struck the Indonesian islands of Tanimbar Sunday.

According to Qatar News Agency, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the quake's epicenter was located 143 km northeast of Tanimbar, at a depth of 144 km.

No casualties or material damage have been reported so far, and no tsunami warnings have been issued.

Earthquakes regularly strike different parts of Indonesia, which lies on the Pacific Ring of Fire, where many tectonic plates meet, causing frequent volcanic and seismic activity.
