5.2 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Eastern Indonesia

Jakarta, An earthquake measuring 5.2 magnitude on the Richter scale struck North Maluku Province in eastern Indonesia on Sunday.

According to a statement by the Indonesian Agency for Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics, the epicenter of the earthquake occurred 24 kilometers from the Halmahera area in the province, at a depth of 132 kilometers.

There have been no reports of material damage or human losses so far.

Indonesia is regularly exposed to earthquakes due to its location on the Pacific Ring of Fire where many tectonic plates meet and cause frequent volcanic and seismic activity.
