Doha: The Organizing Committee for the FIBA Basketball World Cup Qatar 2027 has entered into a cultural cooperation and partnership agreement with the 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum, Qatar Basketball Federation, and the FIBA Foundation, the social and legacy arm of the International Basketball Federation.
According to Qatar News Agency, the agreement was signed by Mohammed Saad Al Rumaihi, CEO of Qatar Museums, and Mohammed Saad Al Meghaiseeb, Director General of the 2027 Basketball World Cup Organizing Committee and President of the Qatar Basketball Federation. The collaboration aims to create a comprehensive framework for educational, awareness, marketing, and documentation projects that will highlight the legacy of basketball both locally and internationally, while reinforcing Qatar’s position as a global hub for sports and culture.
The partnership will feature joint exhibitions and displays on basketball heritage at the 3-2-1 Museum. It also includes the launch of community and interactive events both within and outside the museum, as well as educational programs, school visits, and workshops that showcase the history of the sport and its leadership figures. Local basketball history will be documented through artifact collection and digitization, and FIBA’s historical archive will be made accessible for research purposes.
On the marketing front, the agreement outlines plans for joint digital promotional campaigns, the development of commemorative merchandise, and retail opportunities linked to the Basketball World Cup. In terms of legacy and technical development, community courts featuring artistic designs inspired by the Qatar 2027 tournament will be established. Initiatives for coach development and the collection of tournament memorabilia are also planned for exhibition or preservation for future generations.
Al Rumaihi emphasized that sports and culture are vital tools for community engagement and reinforcing national identity, fostering creativity, social cohesion, and innovation. He expressed appreciation to the Qatar Basketball Federation and the Qatar 2027 Basketball World Cup Organizing Committee for their constructive collaboration.
Al Meghaiseeb thanked HE President of the Qatar Olympic Committee and Chair of the Qatar 2027 Basketball World Cup Organizing Committee Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani, and HE Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of Qatar Museums Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad Al-Thani, for their continued support in advancing the sports and cultural sectors. He noted that the partnership links Qatar’s rich sporting heritage with the future of Qatari basketball.
Director of the 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum, Abdullah Yousuf Al Mulla, explained during a press conference that the agreement plays a crucial promotional, cultural, and educational role in showcasing Qatar’s culture and its capacity to host major sporting events. He added that the museum is a strategic partner in realizing Qatar National Vision 2030 by organizing cultural sports programs, workshops, and exhibitions, and arranging school visits that offer students the opportunity to interact with global basketball stars.
