World Champion in Steeplechase 3,000-Meter Suspended in Doping Case

Norah Jeruto, runner who won world championship gold for Kazakhstan in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, has been provisionally suspended on suspicion of breaking anti-doping rules.

The Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) said Friday in a statement that Noura Jerotto had been temporarily suspended for the use of a prohibited substance or method, the case involves her athlete biological passport.

Jeruto (27 years), who has represented Kazakhstan since Jan. 30, 2022 and is of Kenyan origin, was crowned world champion in the 3,000-meter steeplechase race at the World Cup in Eugene, USA, by covering the distance with a time of 8:53.02 minutes, which is the third best time in history.

Jeruto’s suspension came as Kenya witnesses dozens of doping cases among its male and female runners who have been sanctioned by the AIU.
